01

Choose rolls or cut sheets by the next step

Rolls may suit buyers who plan their own cutting or further handling. Cut sheets can be easier to identify by finished size, but the cutting, edge treatment and unit packing must be confirmed for the actual order. A product photo alone does not show which format is included in a quotation.

If you are comparing weed barrier fabric suppliers, give the intended use and how the material will be received, stored and prepared. These details help clarify the supply format without assuming a particular installation method or performance result.

02

Calculate nominal roll area before comparing quantities

Use metres throughout: nominal area per roll = roll width × roll length. Total nominal area = area per roll × number of rolls. Calculate different sizes separately before adding the areas together.

For arithmetic only, a requested 2 m × 50 m roll contains 100 m² of nominal fabric area; ten such rolls total 1,000 m². This example is not a stock size, minimum order or offer. Nominal fabric area is not the same as usable ground coverage: your layout must account for overlaps, edge allowances, cuts and offcuts. Ask the person planning the installation to provide those allowances instead of adding an arbitrary percentage.

  • Roll order: specification reference + width + length per roll + roll count
  • Cut-sheet order: specification reference + finished width and length + piece count
  • Keep metres of length, square metres of fabric and number of rolls in separate fields
03

Convert the price unit, then compare the same scope

For the same agreed specification and dimensions, product price per square metre = product price per roll ÷ nominal square metres per roll. If a quote uses a different billable area or length basis, clarify that basis first. A lower price per roll may simply describe a shorter or narrower roll.

Keep product, cutting, individual wrapping, labels and delivery charges separate. Check currency, tax treatment and delivery terms as well as quantity. If one quotation combines these charges, ask for the scope to be explained before using it in a like-for-like comparison.

A price per kilogram needs an additional conversion basis. Confirm whether the weight is fabric only or includes the core and packaging. The product catalog's 70 / 80 / 90 g markings do not define their unit basis; do not silently reinterpret them as g/m². Ask for the quoted fabric's unit, tolerance and specification in writing.

04

Make the sample and receiving checks traceable

Link the approved sample to a specification reference and revision. Record the selected weave, color and guide-stripe requirements against that reference. A catalog illustration identifies a product direction; it does not measure permeability, UV resistance or service life.

Before approval, agree how width and length will be checked, any dimensional tolerances, how many rolls will be sampled and how discrepancies will be recorded. These are order terms to agree, not a universal inspection standard.

  • Match the roll label, specification reference and order line
  • Count rolls or pieces by size and check packaging condition
  • Compare sampled dimensions and visible construction with the agreed method and approved sample
  • Record the affected roll IDs, measurements and photos before accepting or raising a discrepancy
05

Confirm packing without guessing freight weight

State whether each roll needs wrapping, which identifiers belong on its label and whether different sizes may share an outer pack. The label should let the receiving team match the roll to the order line.

Request actual packed dimensions, gross weight and units per pack for the confirmed arrangement. Fabric dimensions alone do not establish shipping volume or gross weight. Minimum quantity, availability, price and lead time also need confirmation for the actual order.

Copy this weed barrier roll RFQ

Use the same completed schedule for every supplier. Leave undecided items marked “to confirm” so an assumption does not become an approved requirement.
